◊ Here's one for my past classmates: Al DeGuzman hanged himself with a sheet Wednesday in his cell at Folsom.
He was serving an 80-year sentence for a bomb plot at the community college I attend. I had a class scheduled the day they closed down the campus to search for bombs. I was waved back onto the freeway by cops as I tried to pull onto Stevens Creek Boulevard. There were two helicopters hovering over the campus.
They didn't find any bombs on the campus, though they did find them at his house. The cops caught DeGuzman before he did anything. If he was going to do anything, that is. He was a fucked-up kid.
80 years in prison. If I were facing that, I would've hanged myself, too.
